OGIS 2018

20 September 2018, ALTONA

The biennial Oil & Gas Integrity Symposium, OGIS2018, was held in Melbourne from 12-14th September and facilitated by Qenos as the scheduled 2018 host. The theme of this meeting was ‘Corporate Governance and the Role of Inspection in Pressure Plant Management’. Qenos CEO Stephen Bell opened the conference, emphasizing the high importance Qenos places on asset integrity, as well as how the Qenos SHEOS system integrates corporate governance within its plant asset management process.
The OGIS is an independent industry symposium that has been running for over 35 years, and is managed and coordinated by members within the industry. Attendees are limited to employees of oil and gas or chemical producers, or refining operating companies, both onshore and offshore, with suppliers and vendors excluded. Some of the companies represented at the symposium included Origin Energy, Woodside Energy, Santos, Quadrant, ExxonMobil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Inpex, Chevron, Oil Search, Lochard Energy and Beach Energy.

Oil & Gas Integrity Symposium 2018 participants meet in Melbourne.

More than fifty delegates attended the three day event in Melbourne from all over Australia and as far away as New Zealand and PNG. These industry experts shared their experiences and learnings in the areas of pressure equipment inspection, pipelines, coatings and composite repairs and corrosion under insulation. Other topics included non-metallic piping, non-destructive testing techniques, as well as a number of case studies of failures in pressure vessels and pipelines.
Qenos Altona Equipment Integrity Team Leader, Dietmar Jurgensen, was the convenor of OGIS2018 and noted, "The level of interest in this year's symposium has been great, and particularly pleasing is that we had five organisations attend for the first time".
Many new acquaintances have been made amongst delegates and peer support networks developed and strengthened. Participants will stay in touch with one another in the lead up to OGIS2020 in Perth, as members of the OGIS LinkedIn group.
